In library we discussed the part of a book. Ask your child to show you the cover of a book and the spine. On the spine is a call code or the “address” of where the book lives in the library. What is on the title page? (title of the book, author, illustrator) What does an author do? What does an illustrator do? Just like the athletes in the Olympics win medals, books win awards too. We learned about a special award that some books receive called the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award. If you see a book with this award, then you know that it is a great book for kindergarten and first grade readers.
February is almost here! Today we began talking about things we love. After reading Angelina Loves . . . by Katharine Holabird everyone wrote one thing they love on a big heart. We then made an illustration and are going to hang them up in the hallway. We love some many things, it was hard to just think of just one!
We finished talking about the “est” family by making a nest full of “est” words.
To decorate our room we made dogs and cats out of hearts. They are hanging up in our classroom from our stars.
Have a fabulous weekend!
